Windows 7 has a disk checking toll known as CHKDSK CheckDisk!
Which was similar to the Scandisk in earlier versions of Windows.
In Windows 7 you can use CHKDSK in two ways:
First open Computer and right click on the drive which you desire to scan.
Click on Properties

Now you will see a window like this

Now navigate to Tools tab

In tools tab you can see Error-checking option in which you can scan the disk!

Now click on Check Now

A new box named as Check Disk Local Disk(C:)// here C: is disk letter
now click on Start

If you try to scan a running disk it will show an error as

If you try to scan non running disk it will scan

Click on Properties

A new box named as Check Disk Local Disk(C:)// here C: is disk letter
now click on Start
If you try to scan a running disk it will show an error as
