Portable apps are the apps which can be carried with you in portable device like USB Thumb drive or other devices.

How to create your own portable software using :

• VMware ThinApp (Already written on Feb,2013 )
• Cameyo,

Cameyo to create portable software

Cameyo is the first app virtualization product and available in 10 languages.

Cameyo allows us to create portable apps in two methods Online & Offline.

Let’s us see how to use in Offline:
1. Download the Cameyo software & open it

2. You need to create an account in Cameyo and log in to it.

3. Navigate to studio. Here you can see three options

• Capture app locally
• Capture app online
• Package editor

Click on the drop down button in “Capture app locally”. It shows “Ghost capture: capture an installation in virtual mode”. Click on it.

4. It will open a box prompting you to specify the software which you want to create portable. Click on browse button under Command and select the software-setup or Drag and drop the setup of the software. No need to fill in Parameters.

UAC settings will ask you to allow it, click on Yes.

5. Install the software. After the installation is finished click on OK.

Cameyo will start packing the software.

6. After the packaging is done, Cameyo will display the successfully packed message.

Note: I created portable version of Recuva software.

Steps to take the software Online:

1. To go online click on “Capture app online” in Studio and it will take you online. Log-in into your account.

2. You can upload the software into Cameyo’s cloud in two ways.

• You can give the link of the software from a website.
• You can upload the setup from you computer.

After uploading using any one of the method above, select the version of software i.e. x32bit or x64bit.

Click on Submit.

Note: You can upload the setup of size 30mb maximum.

3. Now your app will get

• Queued
• Packaging

4. After the package is ready, you will get a mail and link to download.

That’s it .

If you want to change anything in your portable software, open Package editor from Studio.

Open the software which you want to edit. Now, you will have many options to edit it.

Create own Portable software

Wanna create portable software?
so here is the tutorial How to do it.
First you need VMWare ThinApp.
Download it. (its available in net)

Follow the steps:
1. Download and install the VMWare ThinApp

2. Now Start the VMWare ThinApp.
 
You can also watch the quick Video in the Start Screen itself.
2. Now click on Next.
It will take you to Prescan option
 
Prescan is the process where the VMWare ThinApp scans the computer hardrive for registry file and initial state of the apps.
So now click on Prescan
It will start prescanning the system
 
3. After the prescan you need to install the application which you want to create a portable version of it.
 
So now install the application.
After the installation of app finishes get back to VMWare ThinApp.
4. Click on Postscan.
When you press postscan you will get a dialog box shows as
 
Click on Ok.
5. VMWare ThinApp will start the postscan. It’s the process of scanning the system again for the basic registry or base data of the software which you have installed before.
 
6. As the result of Postscan it will display the app which have installed after the prescan.
It your time to select the software which you want to create as portable one.

Note: For example I have used Microsoft’s Cliplets so I have selected the Cliplets.exe
7. Just click on Next to bypass VMWare Horizon Application manager
 
8. Authorize the app
 
File System isolation mode
 
Just click on Next to bypass this.
9. Now select the type of Sandbox location.
 
Note: since I wanna cry the portable in USB drive I selected second option.
10. Click on NO to Quality Assurance Statistics.
 
11. Give the name for your portable and location to save.
 
By default it stores in “C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp\Captures”
You can change it by clicking in Browse
 
12. Select the installer if you wish click on MSI Package generation.
 
Note: I don’t need msi package so I selected the primary container.
13. VMWare will save the project.
 
14. it’s time to build your portable software
 
Click on Build
VMWare ThinApp will start building the project.
15. After the build complete it display as
 
 
Click on Finish.
 
That’s it you have created the Portable Software.
